Saleen Vehicles Overview
Steve Saleen started his rise to automotive fame in 1981, when he began tuning
Ford Mustangs. Over the years, his Mustang conversions became more and more
thorough, with new body panels, speedster configurations, and ever more powerful
engines. As business grew, Saleen became synonymous with high-performance Fords,
building tuned versions of the Explorer SUV and Focus compact car. Since Saleen
Mustangs (such as the S281 and S351) are considered second-manufacturer cars
(i.e., tuner cars), they are not included on this site. However, after developing
a Le Mans racer, Steve Saleen chose to develop a road-legal supercar, the S7.
Wholly designed and built by Saleen from a unique platform, the S7 was the
company's first, and to date only, production car.
